The job squeaks in at No. 49, nestled between sales engineer (No. 48) and school administrator (No. 50). So what's the best job in America? Software engineer.


Grading your job: Veterinarian
Jobs that pay less than $50,000 or have a total workforce of less than 15,000, dangerous work environments, or fewer than 800 annual job openings weren't considered for the ranking. Compensation and percentage growth numbers were given double weight.

Good news: Making the list means veterinarians will enjoy above-average job growth over the next 10 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. On the downside, the report says you've got a tough job. We know you're shocked.
